To acknowledge and accept that your every day life has totally changed !
The problem was that the attack had affected my arms, and therefore I wasn't capable of injecting myself. I lived alone, my family lives far away and you don't just call your girlfriends asking: "Could you just come over and do my injections..?"
My first injector was a tube from a hoover. It worked for a while, but wasn't very practical. Particularly if you travel a lot, like I do.
Here's what to do: Find a tube, half a metre in length with a suitable diameter - the tube from your hoover will probably do. You then take the syringe and wrap tape around the lower part of it. Not too much as it has to fit into the tube. Now grab the tube and place it on the middle of your thigh muscle in a 90 angle. I recommend, that you only use your thighs!
Then put the syringe in the top end of the tube, holding it straight. Hold your breath, let go of the syringe and it'll slide down the tube and oops - it ends up in your thigh.
One of the problems with this solution was, that I was often stopped and searched at customs because of the beeping.
Doctors and nurses do not recommend this solution!
It was now time to develop an injector which was just a little bit easier to use
